A Workshop on Advanced English Skills for Legal Professionals

On 21st of February 2024 (Wednesday), Department of Labour Law headed by Mrs.U.Ragavee HOD and Assistant Professors Mrs.J.Gayathri, Mr.B.Akshai Aanand, Mr.M.Illampari and Ms.Varsha Muralidharan conducted One day workshop on theme-“Enhancing Legal Communication: A Workshop on Advanced English Skills for Legal Professionals”. It was a full-day event designed to equip legal professionals with advanced English language skills essential for effective communication in the legal field and 156 students from Saveetha School of Law participated in the workshop. Hosted at New Moot Court hall, the workshop brought together legal experts and language professionals to delve into the nuances of legal communication.

The day commenced with an enlightening keynote address by Mr.T M Soundarajan, Advocate, Chief Trainer and MD of IMAGE Academy, Chennai. The speaker emphasised the importance of clear, concise legal language in conveying precise meaning and avoiding misunderstandings. Participants engaged in an interactive session focusing on drafting legal documents. Second session was followed by Mr.K.Sankar, Managing Director of Impulse Academy at Rasipuram and Director of IMAGE Academy, Chennai. Participants had the opportunity to practise their advocacy skills in a realistic setting, receiving valuable feedback from legal experts on their presentation, argumentation, and use of legal terminology. It was followed by an esteemed legal expert Mr.V.Sivanandam, MSSW(HR), LL.B and M.A Yoga.

He is renowned for his expertise in legal language and communication. His address underscored the significance of clarity, coherence, and conciseness in legal writing and oral advocacy. A panel of legal professionals and language experts convened to discuss the challenges and best practices of legal communication. Topics ranged from cross-cultural communication in legal settings to the impact of language nuances on legal interpretation.

Participants had the opportunity to exchange insights, share best practices, and establish connections that extend beyond the confines of the workshop. As the day came to a close, participants left with a newfound confidence in their ability to navigate the complexities of legal communication. As the legal landscape continues to evolve, the importance of effective communication remains steadfast, making workshops such as these indispensable for those committed to excellence in the field of law.
